We are pleased to announce the arrival of George to the family. Her middle name is Peanut, and I’ll probably call her that after she learns her name. She was born on March 27, currently weighs in at 1.5 pounds and we picked her up on a busy Friday afternoon. We had originally planned to get George on or about May 28 but we knew that she hadn’t yet been to the vet, so we decided to get her now.

The poor baby was terrified as would be expected. She’s only 7 weeks old, she’s taken from her mommy and one remaining sister, tossed in a cat carrier and taken to a room where there are strange sounds and smells. There were big, smelly dogs, a cat stuck its paw under the door, and these two giants kept trying to pick her up, play with her, and talk to her. She cried much of the night.

By Saturday morning George had calmed down and would let us hold her without trying to get away. She also started eating, drinking, and playing. After a quick trip to the vet Saturday morning we continued to hold her, pet her and play with her. Sunday we let Rolfe come in to the room with the kitten (but not get too close) and George was fine. In one day she went from being in shock to being confident enough in us to not let anything happen to her.

We’ve been keeping Peanut isolated until the vet had a chance to look at her poop and declare her healthy. That happened today so we will introduce her to the other animals. We’ll do what we did with Nala - during meals and when we’re watching TV we’ll put her in her cat carrier and have her join the family.

We’ve made great progress with her in just a couple of days. This morning George was crawling on my leg and I took this picture of her. I was surprised that I could get her to sit still this long. She was really interested in my cell phone and kept trying to push buttons.

George

It’s too bad that you can’t see her tail. Her body is white (or light cream) but her tail is dark gray. It looks someone stuck a tail from a different cat on to her body.
