Those are the Breaks. Or Brakes

Does it seem like so-called professional signs, etc. have more spelling and grammatical errors than ever before?  At the beginning of the season the San Jose Sharks handed out a tee shirt to their season ticket holders that said, “Who’s side are you on?”  Anyone who passed fifth grade English should spot what’s wrong with that right away.

Last weekend the Sharks were advertising a special at the souvenir stand.  There, in front of 17496 fans they advertised a three-quarter sleve shirt.  Yes, somewhere along the line they dropped an “e.”

And just so you don’t think I’m just picking on the Sharks’ marketing department, I submit the photo below for your amusement.  I was putting gas in the car and noticed the instructions for the car wash.  Shouldn’t a professional sign maker know the difference between “breaks” and “brakes?”  Don’t they have a proofreader?
